BREAKING: Suicide bomber strikes in Gombe state on New Year’s Eve

 

A bomb has gone off at 301 Mammy Market, situated inside the only military barracks in Gombe, Gombe state. A security source who confirmed the blast to TheCable, said an unknown number of people were killed in the incident, which occurred a few minutes after 8pm. When contacted, Fwaje Atajiri, the police spokesman in the state, said he did not have any information in that regard because he was on holiday.

Two Germans killed in Nigeria

Two German Nationals have been shot dead in Nigeria. According to German newspaper, Ostsee Zeitung, the two nationals, both male aged 34 and 20 were working as engineers at Julius Berger and were shot dead last Saturday December 27th while riding on a motorbike in Abuja.

Confirming the incident to AFP, a foreign affairs official said “Unfortunately we can confirm that two German nationals were killed in Nigeria last weekend".

Beji Caid Essebsi, 88, is the new Tunisian president. Essebsi was sworn in today as Tunisia’s first freely elected president. He was the speaker of parliament under President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali in 2011. He pledged to work towards national reconciliation shortly after taking his oath of office.

The death has been announced of Osayi Omoigui, a young lady who was set to wed on 10th January 2015 having had her engagement on 19th August 2014. Falling Oil Prices: Nigeria Struggles to Sell Oil Cargoes, Offers Discounts to Asian Buyers

Almost half of Nigeria’s cargoes due to be exported in January are still available, Reuters has reported, even as oil prices reach the $50s trough, almost $10 below Nigeria’s benchmark price.

The backlog has pushed Nigerian oil differentials versus Brent to their lowest since at least 2009 BFO-QUA at 65 cents a barrel, down 80 per cent since May, said Reuters. And it is also creating a discount frenzy between African and Gulf oil producers to Asian buyers.

President Jonathan Decries Use of Social Media to Cause Anarchy

President Goodluck Jonathan has decried the use of the social media worldwide to create social discontent and anarchy in the society.

Jonathan said this when he met with a delegation of traditional rulers and leaders from Bayelsa, on Tuesday, in Abuja.

He said that the social media initially meant for good had become a tool to disseminate evil.

2015 Elections: Papa Adeboye's Top Man, Pastor Kalejaiye, Drops Bombshell

 

In his most recent column for Saturday Sun titled Press Clips, veteran Nigerian journalist Mike Awoyinfa chronicled Redeemed Pastor J.T. Kalejaiye’s explosive sermon last Sunday in which he appeared to be canvassing support for the APC Buhari-Osinbajo ticket come February 2015.

In his message, Pastor Adeboye’s close confidant and touted to be among the favourites to one day take over Redeemed Christian Church Of God (RCCG) predicted ‘there would be a pleasant surprise in 2015 elections’, telling congregants to ‘go and mark it’.

Sounding angry with the way Nigeria is going, Pastor Kalejaiye, regional evangelist of RCCG fumed:

“Of what use is my brother, my blood brother who is not going to move the nation forward? And you want me to vote for him because he is my brother? Don’t let us deceive ourselves.”

“What are we saying? Let’s call a spade a spade, brethren. Things cannot continue this way. Corruption is the order of the day. You can steal and nothing will follow. That’s all… Brethren, if you don’t do something, something will do you. Wake up!”

He continued, “We have to change our system… Who is a Christian? Who is a Muslim? When I was working somewhere, my boss was a Muslim. I enjoyed under him. My boss provoked me to study further. My boss was always after my welfare. It shall be well him wherever he is today. He is a Muslim. The soldier attached to me was with me for almost 15 years. I never knew he was a Muslim. The day he opened his mouth to say “Sir, I am Muslim,” I said “What? But you follow me to the camp. You do this, you do that.” He said that when it was time to pray he would pray.

“Brethren, wake up! Who is a Christian? That somebody goes to church doesn’t make him a Christian. That somebody bears Christian name doesn’t make him a Christian. You are a Christian yet there is no employment for our youths. People who should be feeding their parents are still being fed by their parents. How many youths can get married today without the support of their parents financially? During our own time, we did our wedding, we only called our parents to come and eat. Today, our children who are 35, we are still feeding them."

It looks like the message of CHANGE is really spreading fast!

INEC Releases Names of All Presidential Candidates for 2015 Presidential Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the names of the 11 presidential candidates and their running mates who will contest the 2015 general elections.

This is contained in a statement signed by Kayode Idowu, the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman in Abuja.

The statement noted that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) submitted the names of President Goodluck Jonathan and his vice presidential running mate, Namadi Sambo.

Boko Haram kills 15 in Borno town

 

Suspected members of Boko Haram killed at least 15 people in a fresh attack on Kautikari, a village near

 Chibok community in Borno state on Monday December 29th.

"They were about 20, well-armed. They came in four-wheel drive vehicles and some motorcycles. Initially, 

I thought they were soldiers. The man running behind me was gunned down as I was fleeing. Afterwards,

A 12-year-old boy, Samson Egunje, has been accused of killing his friend, Samuel Igbekele (pictured above), in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.

The incident happened on Saturday on Omoboriowo Street.

Residents said the suspect, a primary six pupil, had been looking for the victim all day, saying he abused him in the morning and threatening that he would stab him in revenge.
