As the 2015 presidential elections draws closer, the governor of Niger state, Babangida Aliyu has asked Nigerians to give President Goodluck Jonathan a second chance.
Aliyu, who spoke when the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial campaign team visited the Emir of Kagara, Alhaji Garba Attahiru in Rafi Local Government Area said the call for change was unnecessary.
“The call for change is unnecessary, if someone has stayed long out of office, it will take him another four years to learn if he gets to office before he can finally catch up,” he said.
Aliyu begged the Emir to talk to his people not to desert the PDP but to join them.
The governor decried the rise in political crisis, saying violence would not solve any problem. He said that the rate of attacks in the country was alarming, adding that the situation was capable of disrupting the forthcoming general elections.
He therefore urged political parties and their leaders to call their supporters to order.
“After the elections, we will all have to live together; so we should not do things that will further divide the country. I plead with political leaders to call their supporters to order,” the governor pleaded.
Responding to the governor, the Emir promised to continue to pray for the peace of the country.
Aliyu had earlier fingered the APC of plotting to cause election violence in the nation.
Recall that two campaign vehicles belonging to President Goodluck Jonathan was set ablaze by alleged supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday, January 25, 2015, in the Suleja area of the Niger state.
